PRYCE

Ghyllean She worked tirelessly towards the initiation of the then Shropshire Hospice opening many doors previously closed in order to secure support. She always said that 'to be born to privilege meant greater responsibility to open such doors', adding that should be the order of things.

Recognition for her work took place in 2016 in London when she reluctantly accepted the long overdue honour, modestly. Her own health was then failing significantly. In The Severn Hospice Ghyllean peacefully died on September 19, 2018. Her Husband Roger states the care given was astounding based on dignity and compassion urging all to support it by whatever method. Prior to this she was cared for superbly by several District Nurses, from Shropshire Community Health, equally compassionate and capable in palliative nursing.

During her lifetime, Ghyllean tragically lost each son, but she remained dignified and composed, dedicating herself to her work. She was able to spend her final two years in her much loved home, Leaways until the Friday before her death when she was taken into the care of the dedicated Hospice Staff.

To sum up, this lady has left us an example, she was always at ease with highest and lowest of human beings, she did not suffer fools.

When we went for meals with her and Roger she always wanted to know about the Children, I used to tell her I feel embarrassed talking about our Children when you have lost all yours but she always had an interest in them, especially the naughty ones. If I ever feel hard done by I think of her life and remember if she could cope with all she went through, picked herself up and continued helping others to the end - it would soon put my problems into perspective.

I count myself privileged to have known her. R. Geraint Peate
