Former semi-professional footballer Mr Philip Millington

(78), of Montague Street, Mansfield, was buried at the

town's cemetery after a service at St Lawrence's Church.

Born at Langold, Worksop, and educated at Carter Lane

and High Oakham schools, Mansfield, Mr Millington had

lived locally for most of his life.

A miner at Rufford Colliery for 10 years , he was then

employed as manager of Cavendish Woodhouse furniture

shops for 30 years, retiring in 1990.

He had played semi-professional football for Mansfield

and Sutton towns, and his interests also included horse racing,

football, boxing and socialising, but his main love was

for his family.

Mr Millington, who died at Westfield Residential Care

Home, Mansfield, leaves his wife, Mrs Irene Millington,

sons John and Mark, and five grandchildren.
