The Bonnar family in New Zealand are so sorry to hear about George. George was Jim's cousin & both Jim & Gladys have great memories of living in Scotland visiting George & his family & listening to the many jokes & stories George would always be telling. George was an amazing baker & created the beautiful four tier wedding cake for Jim & Gladys's wedding in 1961. In 2002 George & Dorothy along with Bobby & Josie Bonnar visited the family in NZ, we had a wonderful few weeks travelling & enjoying their company. The last time we saw George was in 2011 when we visited Scotland. Am sure cousin's George, Bobby & Jimmy will all be together now sharing a dram, listing to George telling his jokes & even possibly a yodel or two. Love & condolences to all George's family - Gladys Bonnar & family in NZ Xx

George was the close companion of my mother, Dorothy Grant, for 20 years. Although they did not live together, they spent every day together for many years, sharing cruises, holidays and countless ballroom dancing classes. My mother, sadly, had to move to England recently after suffering a stroke and being diagnosed with vascular dementia. She resided in a care home and since October 2019 she has lived in a nursing home. Although her ability to communicate on the telephone was hampered by her dementia and hearing problems she never forgot George. I know that they always ended every telephone conversation telling each other that they loved each other. George, who was left living alone in Dundee, also ended up in a nursing home and although attempts were made to try to enable George and Dorothy to stay in touch, their communication with each other towards the end was very limited. I know both would be very sad about this as they had each given the other great comfort and support throughout their relationship. I have not told my mother about George's death as I would rather have her believe that he is still around and that another cruise will shortly be booked!
