WOOD Derek Gilbert Of Presteigne.

Derek died peacefully at home on June 21, aged 88 years.

A Son of Lancashire Mill workers he was much respected and loved by colleagues and pupils in his role as Head of Creative Design in John Beddoes School, Presteigne. He started teaching at Presteigne Grammar School in 1955 after seeing service in the 1st Batallion of the East Lancashire Regiment and training in Craft and PE in Loughborough, In Presteigne he met his future Wife Margaret and together they made their home and life's work in Presteigne, at what became John Beddoes School. Derek retired in 1988. Derek was well known and loved throughout the community and will be greatly missed.
