Dear Sally I and Jayne cannot put into words how saddened we both were to hear of Neil's passing - I was saying to Jayne how much I was looking forward to seeing you both at my 60th and getting together again after so many years. Ringing Neil and talking to Neil so recently was a joy for me - it was as though time had stood still - I so regret that it took me so long to contact Neil. I first met Neil at Vaughan Associates where we became great friends only to drift apart as our lives went down different paths. The turn out at Pontesbury Church on Saturday was amazing and proof (not that it was ever in doubt) how popular and loved Neil was by so many people of all ages and from all walks of life. I still have photos of our time fishing together in Cornwall - I had just met Jayne then not long after my fathers death - Neil and I gave each great support with my loss and his fathers loss and mothers illness - Jayne and I still remember Neil's mother walking down the aisle at your wedding with fond memories. The courage, love and togetherness - together with the words you and your children so beautifully delivered on Saturday are most definitely the most moving Jayne and I have ever experienced. Neil, I only found out this morning my friend. I am truly shocked and saddened to hear of your passing. You were a great friend and colleague who helped me through our firefighter recruits course at Washington Hall Chorley. You were kind, friendly, funny and a real professional and a pleasure to have spent 12 weeks in your company. God bless you mate. Rest in peace Tony Cavanagh Lancs FRS (retired)
