What very sad news to hear of Mikes passing. In the late 70's through to mid-80's Mike was my angling mentor and guide, never stinting in his generosity of time, advice (and chauffeuring) as he introduced me to the delights of match fishing and Wem AC, all over Shropshire, North Wales but also further afield, including Oxfordshire (where I eventually settled) and also a memorable (winning) week in Ireland. He created in me a fascination and enjoyment in fishing (and tried to impart lots of skills) that have stayed with me to this day whether on lake, river or canal. I am trying to share those skills with my own son - so I now also appreciate how patient Mike was! Although I haven't seen Mike for many decades, there is certainly never a fishing day that goes by when he is not in my thoughts, or his colourful advice flashes through my mind - I am very thankful our paths crossed all those years ago. My deepest sympathies to Joyce (ever patient, on all those misty 5am starts), the girls (who I recall meeting very briefly), Tony (Mikes best fishing buddy) and the whole Buttery family who must all now feel such loss - I know I do. Sincere condolences from David Jones
