BRAKE
Ronald S It is with great sadness that the Family of Ronald Sidney Brake announces his death on November 9, 2021 at the age of 95.
After marrying in 1946, Ron became a long term resident of Queen Street, Castlefields, Shrewsbury. His Wife Valerie Joyce Turner Brake predeceased Ron in 1992.
Born in Bristol in 1926, Ron joined the Army in 1943 and entered World War II as a member of the Gloucester Regiment. He fought through France, Holland and Germany in the Somersets and finished his service in the Royal Fusiliers. While having many horrific experiences, he remembered fondly an unexpected meeting with his Brother Ken, after they had both been wounded and sent to the same hospital in Belgium. Because of their unusual surname they were made aware of each other and had a joyous, if brief reunion.
After the War Ron worked as a printer rising to foreman at Livesey Printers, Shrewsbury. When Ron retired he devoted himself to his Wife, who was suffering from a long term illness.
Ron is survived by his Son Terry Brake and his Daughter-in-law Dianne, who live in Waterford, Virginia, USA and by their three Sons and their Wives Sam and Huyla Brake, Ben and Julie Ajinkya-Brake and Morgan and Yuanyuan Hough. He is also survived by seven Great-Grandchildren, Wyatt, Elinor, Wren, Desmond, Jakson, Sasha and Simon.
In Bristol, Ron is survived by his Niece Linda Templett and Nephew Philip Brake.
A few years ago when Ron became frail, a guardian angel came into his life in the form of Caroline Morgan an Age UK Carer.
Ron found much happiness in life serving as a loving Grandfather figure to his Niece and Nephew Joanne and Robert Clews, Children of Colin and Melinda Clews of Shrewsbury. He greatly enjoyed holidays in Blackpool with the Clews Family and in later years enjoyed travel in France with Terry and Dianne.
Ron was an avid photographer, a keen gardener and steam train enthusiast.
There will be a private Graveside gathering at 2.30pm on Thursday, November 18, 2021 however a Memorial Service in the Spring of 2022 will be arranged to further celebrate Ron's life.
In lieu of flowers, charitable donations to the Severn Hospice will be welcome.
