I was at Newcastle with Graham Swift. Mr Panton was probably the finest teacher I encountered at school or university. He taught physics, but awakened my interest in many other fields. A kindly, tolerant, modest yet extremely witty man; I have many fond memories of him after more than 50 years.

A highly respected,admired and insprational former teacher at Newcastle High School , and later a personal friend whose company was always a delight. He was my form master when in the Lower 6th and also my physics teacher , and shortly afterwards gave much encouragement in my eventual career.
