EVANS

Phil June 5, 1935 - March 23, 2022.

Phil Evans, beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather, died peacefully at home on the afternoon of March 23.

We will be gathering to celebrate his life, and to rest in love and joy as we share favourite memories and stories of a wonderful man who will be fondly remembered and greatly missed.

Phil is survived by his loving Wife of 16 years, Pat, his four Children David, Lisa, Gareth and Gillian, and two Stepsons Will and Charlie.

Phil was the loving Grandfather of Ty, Fola, Alfie, Ruby, Josh, Kate, and Harry and the loving Great-Grandfather of Ty's Daughter Leela who was born last year. Phil was pre-deceased by his beloved first Wife, Eileen and his beloved Grandson, Joe. Phil was a Shropshire lad through and through. He was down to earth and centered in a profound love of the countryside, which he roamed, wildly, as a boy. As a man, his love of the woods took him most days to the Bruce Trail in and around Georgetown, his second home, to rest his brilliant mind in the peace of nature.

He was a passionate bird watcher and could identify species by their song, nesting behaviour and movement in flight. Phil was a soccer fan and a life-long supporter of Burnley FC. He had a love of classical music, especially Beethoven and earlier in his life trained to become a classical pianist.

Phil graduated in metallurgy from the University of Birmingham in 1957 and enjoyed a successful career of over 40 years as a hydro-metallurgist which took him around the world many times over. Phil began his career in 1960 when at just 25 years of age, he became the Assistant Works Manager at a tin smelter in Jos, Nigeria. This was the beginning of a long love affair with Africa, a place to which he would return many times to live and work, and to enjoy with Family the special wonder of animal and birdlife on safari in the Okavango Delta of Botswana or Etosha Pan of Namibia.

Phil's love of Canada began early in his career. His four Children spent their earliest years in the beautiful maritime province of New Brunswick where Phil was Superintendent of a cadmium and arsenic trioxide plant.
