WARD

Barbara Muriel Ann

May 2, 1940 - November 05, 2012.

It is with sadness that we announce the death of Mrs Barbara Muriel Ann Ward, former Mayor of Much Wenlock. Mrs Ward passed away in her sleep on the morning of November 5, 2012, at The Uplands Nursing Home, Shrewsbury, having suffered from Dementia for some years. She was peaceful, comfortable and at rest. Her Family and close Friends are deeply grateful that they were able to spend time with her before she passed away.

Born in London on May 2, 1940, Barbara adopted Shropshire as her home in the 1980's with her second Husband, Raymond Ward.

Barbara dedicated her working life to social care, rising in 1997 to become Corporate Director for Social Services, Housing and Community Services in the new Unitary Authority of Telford and Wrekin.

Barbara also gave a great deal of time and hard work to her community. She was elected as an Independent Local Councillor for Much Wenlock, serving as Mayor from 2005-2006. She chaired the Much Wenlock Festival Committee, delivering several highly successful events. She was also a Governor of Much Wenlock Primary School and a Trustee of the Beth Johnson Housing Association and The Shropshire and Telford and Wrekin Community Foundation.

An accomplished singer, Barbara sang with the Midland Chorale and a number of other choirs. She greatly enjoyed the outdoors, gardening and walking her dogs - and very much loved Shropshire's beautiful countryside.

Barbara is dearly missed by herSons David and James, her Brother Graham and his Family, her many Cousins, Nieces and Nephews, and her Grandchildren Lucca and Indigo.

There will be a Memorial Service for Barbara at Holy Trinity Church, Much Wenlock, at 12.30pm, on Friday, November 16.All welcome.
