Joyce GRIFFITHS was an exceptional all-rounded musician. I will never forget the wonderful flute lessons I received from her when she and Phil lived in Peacock Passage, Shrewsbury. Always kind, Joyce shared her skills in abundance with clarity, intelligence and fun! I loved my lessons and soaked up her every word of advice .... and it all paid off! Joyce encouraged me to sit in Shrewsbury Orchestral Society rehearsals to gain experience with better players. Being 16 at the time, it was all very exciting and a real privilege to play the flute and the violin in 2 of the societies concerts. Some 7 years ago, I located Joyce and had the chance to thank her personally for her invaluable input she installed in helping me “to learn the ropes” in preparation for a long, varied and enjoyable career as a solo and chamber music flute player/oboist and woodwind specialist. To Joyce GRIFFITHS: I raise a large glass of sherry to celebrate her long and fascinating life! Marjorie Downward (pupil 1965-1968)
