MURRAY

Margaret Elizabeth

(Peggy)

Date of birth: April 14, 1918.

Death: March 4, 2017.

Educated at Clive Primary and Junior School and Wem Senior School from the first year it was open.

Passed entrance to Radbrook Catering College, she wasrefused a bursary because of the very few positions for high skilled female cooks and was therefore not financially viable for a council funded bursary. She then became a Nanny for the Stanier Children at the Citadel, Weston Under Redcastle.

She became engaged to Flt Sergeant Robert Fraser Murray in Aberdeen the day the Second World War broke out, on returning to her future Mother-in-law at Alford, Aberdeenshire, orders for Robert Murray were sent for him to return immediately to his Unit. She was going to return to her Parents the following day but was taken ill overnight and had to stay another week.

She married Robert and spent some time in married quarters, he was serving in a secret development Squadron, as soon as someone in the area started to talk about the Squadron all Members were contacted and told to be on the parade ground with their luggage the following morning and to be taken to an undisclosed destination. She kept having to return to her Mother's for periods of time because of these moves.

During the War she had three baby boys and raised them mostly on her own.

With the male shortage due to men enlisting in the Forces she volunteered to become a British Rail Signal woman, a very hard job and at the end of the war when our Armed Forces returned she made way for a male to take up his position again.

She then went back to putting all her efforts into being a full time Mother. Her Husband worked as an auto electrician for Vincent Greenhous at Grey Friars, Shrewsbury, he moved from there to become Manager of The Crown Hotel Garage and then to Yardley Wavise making petrol and diesel electric generators until the isolated properties were joined onto an electricity distribution service. After this her Husband started on some development work and she joined him at a factory in Shrewsbury, the only Staff were just the two of them.

In the 50's with two others they went on a grand tour of Europe staying at youth hostels, one of the highlights was being invited by the Managing Director of Lancer Cars for lunch in Italy, which was accompanied by a full orchestra.

Survived by Sons Robert, Ian and Gordon, Grand- children Debbie and Heather, Robbie and Elizabeth, Abbie, Claire and Hanna, Great-Grandchildren Carrie andJessica-Paris, Nathaniel, Shanice and Jordan, Great-Great-Grandchildren Isla and Riley, Oliver and Emily, Tyler, Alexandra and Eleanor and Finn.

Funeral details to be announced at a later date.
