OLLERHEAD

Roy

D.F.M.

Aged 88 years, of Oswestry. Died peacefully at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, on March 21, 2012, after a short illness. Much loved Husband of the late Maureen Ollerhead, Father to Carole, Denise and Jeanette, Grandfather to Carl, Lorraine, Garry Tracy and Barry and Great-Grandfather to seven boys. He will be sadly missed.

Born in Oswestry, Roy later attended Oswestry School. At the age of 18, with the outbreak of World War II, Roy joined the RAF and trained as Navigator on Lancaster Bombers. Flying with 626 Squadron he survived over 30 operations with the same crew and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Medal by King George VI at a ceremony in Holyrood Palace.

At the end of the war Roy retrained as a Teacher and taught first at Oswestry School then Gobowen School, The Orthopaedic Hospital and finally at Woodside School from where he retired in 1982.

A keen football supporter Roy was Secretary of Oswestry Town Football Club for 12 years.

The Funeral willtake place at Pentrebychan Crematorium, Wrexham, at 2.30pm, Tuesday, April 3, 2012.
