Mavis Elaine

nee Harvey

Also known as Miss Pum and Mometo, aged 95 years, died at her home in Wolverhampton, West Midlands, on December 20, 2012. Born February 24, 1917, in Hanover, Jamaica, to Sidney and Emilia Harvey, Mrs Grant was one of 9 Children.

She married in 1940 in Jamaica to William Carol Grant. Mrs Grant farmed her Family estate in Jamaica before coming to start a new life in England in 1960, at a time when England was trying to recover economically from the ravages of war. Mrs Grant looked after Children from other Families for many years, thereby, financing the safe passage of her Children left behind in Jamaica. In later life she was employed at the Wolverhampton Eye Infirmary for over 14 years before she retired in 1982.

Mrs Grant is survived by 6 Children Desmond Grant (married to Bernice), Hilda (married to Edward Spence), Pearlie (married to Herbert Porter), Albert Grant (married to Mavis aka Blossom), Sybil (married to Del Wright) and Ada (married to Lloyd Rose) and a Step-daughter Millicent Grant. Most of her Children still reside in the West Midlands and Derbyshire area. Also survived by 28 Grand- children, 48 Great-Grand- children, 3 Great-Great-Grandchi ldren and Siblings Sylvia, Gwendolyn, Rose, Louise, Flaveous and Henry. Predeceased by her Husband William Carol Grant, who died on March 31, 1983 and their Son Nollis Grant, who died in the year 2000.

Her modest elegance, poise and grace was surrounded by a sharpness of mind, wit and wisdom, which continued throughout her lifetime. She will be remembered as a hardworking, caring and respectable woman, Wife, Mother and Grandmother, whose compassion knew no limits. Mavis lived simply so that her Children could reap the harvest from her toils. Mavis will begreatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Mrs Grant's Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, January 10, 2013, at 11.30am, at St John's Methodist Church, 766 Parkfield Road, Wolverhampton, WV4 6EE. The Service will be conducted by Reverend Singleton.

Pallbearers include Grandsons Mark Spence, Marlon Wright, Dean Grant, Wayne Porter, Cy Grant and Jonathan Porter.

Graveside Services at Beacon Hills, Dovedale Road, Wolverhampton, WV14 9BB, followed by a Reception at The Ramada Park Hall Hotel, Park Drive, Goldthorn Park, Wolverhampton, WV4 5AJ for refreshments.
