MALPASS

Alan George

A local Teacher, Deputy Headmaster and Headmaster, passed away on January 4, 2012.

Alan was born in Tipton to George and Annie Malpass and was an only Child.

He was educated in Wednesbury and carried out his National Service in the Stafford area.

Alan did his teacher training at Saltley College Birmingham and taught originally at Holyhead Road Secondary School for Boys in the 1950's, later moving to the newly opened Wood Green Secondary School, Wednesbury, this was followed by a period as a Deputy Head at Claregate Primary School in Wolverhampton.

Alan achieved his Headship by moving to Princes End Junior School in Tipton until his retirement. With a special flair for mathematics, he set many Children on the right path to successful careers, he was also responsible for many outstanding musical performances within primary schools, notably Joseph and his Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat many years before its popularity on the West End stage.

As an accomplished pianist and musician, Alan played in several dance bands and trios during the 50's and 60's, both as a Clarinettist and a Saxophonist which reflected his great appreciation and love of Big Band, especially Glenn Miller.

Alan's Wife Aileen died in 1993, he leaves one Daughter and three Sons.
